For us,The Grouse and Ale is literally just up the road and when one reflects on it's food credentials in it's previous life as The Clayton Arms, one has to say that we are fortunate to have apub of this quality in our little village.

It is one of that rare breed of place that allows both pub and restaurant sides of the business to co-exist in perfect harmony making it an excellent choice for both food and for those who simply want a good pint of beer.

For us,on this occasion,it was a meal and wine for three of us.Fish cake and mussels for starters and pork fillet for all three as the main course, washed down with a very drinkable South African Chenin Blanc and an organic Argentinian Malbec.

A thoroughly enjoyable meal, served by genuinely friendly staff at a fair price for the quality of food and wine. For anyone wondering whether The Grouse and Ale is worth a flutter,my advice is simply that the odds are on your side if you do.
